India started the five-match T20 series against New Zealand with a convincing win. They chased down 204 at the Eden Park in Auckland on Friday. New Zealand’s batting came together to post a challenging total. However, their bowlers couldn’t contain the Indian batting line-up. Leg-spinner Ish Sodhi, who played the first match, believes that the hosts need to adopt an attacking mode against India’s star-studded batting line-up.

Sodhi emerged as the pick of the bowlers for the Kiwis. He dismissed KL Rahul and Shivam Dube in his allotted four overs. However, he gave the Indian captain Virat Kohli a reprieve that played a massive part in their defeat.

Also, the three pace bowlers collectively could only manage one wicket amongst them in 11 overs. The visitors methodically dismantled the Kiwi bowling attack to achieve a challenging target of 204.

The leggie conceded that once more they have to put above 200 runs on the board and look to be aggressive early on with the ball. He further said that one would have to deploy the method and if it doesn’t work, they have to take the learnings forward and use it accordingly.

“We put 200 on the board again. If we can look to be more aggressive with the ball that attitude will be great learning from the first game. If we are going to go for runs or miss out on a couple of opportunities for wickets, you only learn after you try it out. You have to see how the game is going on.” Sodhi said as quoted by News Indian Express

Over the years, India have brought together some very potent batsmen, who are quick to acclimatize to different conditions as well as formats quickly. The Ludhiana-born spinner acknowledged that the men in blue have several formidable batsmen hence it isn’t very easy to tie them down. The shorter boundaries at the Eden Park aggravates the challenge.

“They have five or six world-class batsmen in their side and it will always be difficult to contain them at the best of times. Eden Park with its boundary size is a challenge as well.” Sodhi added further.
