Former English captain Michael Vaughan has been impressed with Mumbai Indians’ Ishan Kishan for his ability to play multiple roles. Mumbai Indians are all gearing up to play in the final of IPL 2020 against the Delhi Capitals in Dubai, chasing an elusive fifth title. Michael Vaughan has hailed Ishan Kishan for being a multi-dimensional cricketer.

Ishan Kishan has risen as one of the brightest talents in the current edition of IPL due to his well-calculated knocks that also involves maintaining a healthy strike rate. The left-handed keeper-batsman currently has 483 runs at an average of above 50 and strike rate of 144 with four fifties. The 22-year old has played in the middle-order as well as batted at the top, excelling in both.

Michael Vaughan lauds Ishan Kishan for playing multiple roles, having the skill to bat well at the top and settle to plunder the big shots later in the middle-order. Vaughan believes that the potency to bat in both the positions will give Kishan longevity in his professional career and that if Mumbai Indians don’t retain him, other franchises will demand him.

What I like about him is the way he can play different roles. He can go to the top, he can manoeuvre himself around the middle. He is the not one of these players who can bat only at one position, and this will give him a lot of longevity because you can see every franchise will be interested in him, if he ever leaves Mumbai Indians,” Vaughan told Cricbuzz.

The Ashes-winning captain feels that since Ishan Kishan can play different roles in the team, the coaches, captains, and the management want to have him. The 46-year old loves the southpaw’s bat swing and the confidence and mojo only makes it beautiful to watch. Vaughan also prefers cricketers, who start quietly and picks the gap initially to settle down unlike players, who begin going hard from the word-go.

Because he can play a few different roles, and that’s what franchise owners, captains, coaches really want in the squad – players who can manoeuvre themselves in different roles. He’s got a lovely bat swing. When he starts to find his confidence and his mojo, he’s got lovely swing of the bat. I actually like players who start a little bit iffy because it’s so normal. So many players come out and start hitting to the boundaries straight away, so you start to wonder, how is it even possible,” he added.
