Indian pacer Ishant Sharma is just a wicket away from overtaking Indian legend Kapil Dev in the elite list of most wickets by an Indian player outside Asia. He would go past the former Indian skipper in the second Test of the series against West Indies. Ishant is currently equalled with Dev’s record of 155 wickets outside the Asian conditions.

The moment he will scalp a wicket in the 2nd Test, he will be the lone player on the second spot, going past Kapil Dev. The list is topped by legendary leg-spinner Anil Kumble, who has most Test and ODI wickets for India.

                   Player Wickets

Anil Kumble 200
Kapil Dev 155
Ishant Sharma 155
Zaheer Khan 147
Bishan Singh Bedi 123

Out of his 619 Test scalps, Kumble pouched 200 wickets outside the Asian conditions that make him the best player on this list. Following Ishant and Dev are Zaheer Khan and Bishan Singh Bedi.

Zaheer scalped 147 wickets outside Asia while Bedi, the former India captain, pouched 123 wickets with his spin. In the present scenario, Ishant has a strong chance of overtaking Kumble in the list as well.

He presently has wickets 275 wickets in 91 Test matches he has played so far. In 80 ODIs, he has scalped 115 wickets. Ishant hasn’t played an ODI since January 2016 but was in contention to make a comeback for World Cup 2019. He was one of the players on the standby list for the tournament as well.

The second and the final Test between India and West Indies will be played in Jamaica from August 30 to September 3. The visiting team is likely to retain the same combination, which means that there will no place for either of R Ashwin and Rohit Sharma.

West Indies will surely have at least one change. Miguel Cummins, who played the first Test in place of an injured Keemo Paul, has been replaced by the latter. Paul will walk into the playing XI in place of Cummins.
