The day 15th November was a historic day in the history of Indian cricket as on this very day 28 years ago, arguably the most important batsmen of all time Sachin Tendulkar walked out for the first time donning the India colours against Pakistan. Making his debut at a tender age of 16, Tendulkar got a taste of international cricket pretty soon with the likes of Wasim Akram, Imran Khan and Waqar Younis in the Pakistan line-up.

He soon realised that international cricket was nowhere near to the level of cricket he had played earlier. However, he made the transition soon and went on to score a match-saving half-century at Sialkot which many touted as the fastest pitch they had played in their career. The innings was enough to prove that the man was destined for greatness.

He was also HIT on the nose by a snorter of a delivery from Waqar Younis. Blood kept rolling down, but the Little Master in his squeaky voice said in an unfazed manner “Main Khelega” and went on to smash the very next delivery for a scorching boundary. It was the exhibition match in Peshawar which helped Tendulkar mage a huge name for himself.

He danced down the track and smashed the famous leg-spinner Abdul Qadir for four sixes in the same over and repeated the same treatment to Mushtaq Ahmed an over later. He scored his first century in the series against England and the tour to Australia in 1991-92 transformed Sachin into a man. The twin centuries in Sydney and Perth is still regarded as one of the two best innings by the Little Master.

In the coming years, he went on to break every possible batting records and went on to earn the tag of ‘God of Cricket’. His passion for runs was simply unwavering all through his 24 years long career, and even during his farewell Test against West Indies in 2013, Tendulkar scored a fluent 74 which was studded which some ‘Sachin Specials’.

Team India fast bowler, Ishant Sharma who also grew up idolising Tendulkar like many current cricketers took to his twitter handle and thanked the Master for being an inspiration and giving countless memories. “The Legend who redefined Cricket turned a sport into a religion, debuted Int’l Cricket on this date in 1989, #IndvsPak. Thank you for the inspiration and countless memories!  @sachin_rt #28YearsOfSachinism,” Ishant wrote.
