'It Is Quite Flattering To Win The Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy': Ben Stokes

English all-rounder Ben Stokes won the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for the ICC Player of the Year at the ICC Awards 2019. He had a fantastic 2019 and put up some brilliant performances throughout the year. He won the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 with Team England and was the Man of the Match in the final of the tournament. He also had a marvellous Ashes and it was his contribution that helped England level the five-match series 2-2.

Ben Stokes won the ICC Payer of the Year Award at the ICC Awards 2019. He was included in the ICC Test Team of the Year and ICC ODI Team of the Year.  Apart from him, Jos Buttler was the other Englishman who was included in the ICC ODI Team of the Year. Indian Captain Virat Kohli has been named the Captain of both the teams.

Ben Stokes expresses his joy:

After winning the award, Ben Stokes expressed his joy on clinching the Best Player of the Year Award. He stated that winning the World Cup was the most incredible achievement. Stokes said, “It is quite flattering to win the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for the ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year. The past 12 months have been incredible for England cricket and to lift the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup for the first time was our greatest achievement.”

Ben Stokes had a breath-taking 2019. In Tests, he scored a total of 821 runs in 221 innings at an average of 45.61. In ODIs, Stokes scored 719 runs in 17 innings at an average of 59.91. He took a total of 12 wickets in ODIs and 22 wickets in Tests.
