Former India captain Sourav Ganguly who formally took charge as the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on October 23 has been working beyond the call of duty to take the Indian cricket to the next level. After 33 months of Committee of Administrators (CoA) being in charge, Sourav Ganguly was elected the president unopposed.

At the General Body meeting, led by the members of the CoA, Ganguly was handed over the charge by BCCI Electoral officer, N Gopalswami. It was when Ganguly became the 39th president of India’s governing body BCCI. BCCI President Sourav Ganguly was the one who convinced Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to play a historic pink-ball Test match against India, in what turned out to be the biggest blockbuster.

Meanwhile, there were some important talks about the possibility of staging four-day Tests in the future. A four-day Test match is not a new concept with the last match played between England and Ireland previously this year. It should be noted that South Africa and Zimbabwe also played one match in 2017.

Sourav Ganguly on Monday stated that it is too early to comment on the ICC’s proposal to make four-day Tests compulsory as part of the World Test Championship from 2023. When asked about his opinion on four-day Tests, Sourav Ganguly said that it is important to look into the proposal first before jumping into conclusions.

“First we will have to see the proposal, let it come and then we will see. It’s too early to say. Can’t comment just like this,” BCCI President Ganguly said at the Eden Gardens. It has been said that the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) cricket committee will formally mull over reducing Tests to four days from five for the 2023-2031 cycle.
