Beating West Indies in West Indies has always been a distant dream in the cricket history. However, the standards of the game have gone down very low of late as they are finding it pretty tough to make things fall in place. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli-led Indian team stamped their authority by winning every game in their recent tour to West Indies. Speaking of the same, the head coach Ravi Shastri feels it won’t happen again.

Speaking to Gulf News after his side began the World Test Championship campaign in style in West Indies, Shastri said India are motivated to be well-placed and make the finals of the inaugural edition of the premier Test tournament.

Vision is to keep the consistency – Ravi Shastri

Further, Ravi Shastri praised his team for their remarkable performance in the Caribbean, calling it ‘unprecedented’ as the men in blue completed a clean sweep across all formats. India won all the games in the tour with the exception of one washout.

“To beat the West Indies in West Indies across all three formats, I think this must be unprecedented,” Shastri told Gulf News. “A team going to the Caribbean and not losing a single game, I don’t think it has happened in the past and it will not happen that easily in the near future.”

“The vision is to keep the consistency level going,” Shastri said. “It will be a team in transition, and one has to keep an eye out for the youth and also keep an eye on developing the bench strength as far as batting and bowling goes across all three formats. We should, at the same time, be never losing sight of the fact that you play to win. Never losing that angle, but yet, at the same time, investing in youth.”

All in all, it was a magical victory for India as Ravi Shastri said. Now, they would like to make the most of the home advantage against South Africa, who are set to lock horns in T20I and Test format of the game.

Earlier, the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) headed by World Cup-winning captain, Kapil Dev, announced Shastri’s name as the head coach of the Indian cricket team. Shastri had stiff competition from two candidates in Mike Hesson and Tom Moody – whom the CAC said was very close to bagging the top job.
