The England Cricket Team is planning to onboard James Anderson for the Sri Lanka tour. But, initially, he will travel with the squad in a player-coach role. The decision will be taken when they hold their final selection meeting ahead of next month’s two-Test series. The squad announcement, which was originally scheduled to take place today has been delayed by 24 hours.

The veteran bowler Anderson suffered from a rib injury before the England-South Africa series and was ruled out of the Test series.

Last week, he said that he is available for selection now and is fully fit and confident to take on the Lankan Lions. But England management is reluctant for the move as Anderson recently suffered a 12-month rule out for with a calf injury.

James Anderson Likely to Receive Sri Lanka Call Up

England are considering leaving Anderson out of the 16-man squad. But, they plan on accompanying him to Sri Lanka to monitor his fitness ahead of a possible return for the second Test, starting on March 27.

In this manner, Anderson will be able to help the other bowlers of the squad in the first game and introspect about his comeback in a much better way.

The prominent bowler Anderson has been one of the best bowlers for England, especially in Test cricket. He is one of the most successful Test bowlers of world cricket.

The star bowler is now in the latter stage of his career and injuries seemed to frustrate him time and again. But, at this age too, he is one of the most deadly bowlers for England. He is England’s all-time leading wicket-taker.

Fondly known as ‘Jimmy’, he has a total of 584 wickets to his name in the 151 Test games he has played for England so far.

In ODIs, he has clinched a total of 269 wickets in 194 games. His T20I career hasn’t been long enough. He has played only 19 T20Is for England and picked 18 wickets.
