A Street Is Set To Be Named After James Anderson In His Hometown Burnley

James Anderson, England’s leading Test wicket-taker, is to be honoured by the Burnley Council as they have decided to have a street in his name. Anderson recorded his 600th wicket in August in a home Test against Pakistan.

The veteran bowler Anderson is also the first pace bowler to do so. The right-arm seamer has had a terrific year with the ball in hand, as he has picked up 23 wickets at a brilliant average of 20.

A motion passes to have a street named after James Anderson

James Anderson has earlier also received several accolades for his achievements in cricket. In December 2011, he was awarded the Freedom of the Borough of Burnley. In the 2015 Queen’s Birthday Honours, Anderson was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) “for services to cricket”. In February 2016, he received his OBE at Buckingham Palace.

In the latest news, in a Burnley Council meeting, a motion was passed to have a Burnley Borough street named after James Anderson.

Wajid Khan, the Burnley mayor Councilor said that the council has honoured him this reward for becoming the first-ever Test match fast bowler to take 600 wickets. He also said that Anderson has been a great ambassador for the Borough, Burnley and has been an excellent role model for youngsters in their town.

According to BBC, Burnley mayor Councilor, Wajid Khan said, “This council honours James Anderson being the first-ever test match fast bowler to achieve this historic milestone by naming a Burnley borough road/street in the name of James Anderson,” Khan said.

“He has been a great ambassador for the borough, having been born and bred in Burnley, as well as starting his cricketing career at Burnley Cricket Club. James is an excellent role model for Burnley youngsters as he has demonstrated it’s possible to achieve their goals and aspirations and reap the rewards of hard work,” he added.

According to the Mayor, the street should be close to James Anderson’s house in Burnley. Wajid Khan has also asked the Queen to acknowledge the Lancashire lad with a knighthood.
