The Windies have suffered a massive blow ahead of the Bangladesh tour as their skipper Jason Holder is ruled out due to a shoulder injury. Holder got a blow to his shoulder during the recently concluded tour of India and is expected to be out of action for a month. Thus, the Windies will find it difficult to fill in the big shoes of their skipper.

Jason Holder had missed the first Test match against India due to an injury and it was a one-sided affair. Holder made a strong return to the side in the second Test as he delivered with both bat and ball. The lanky fast bowler scalped five wickets in first innings and also scored a fighting fifty. Thus, Holder adds value to the Windies team.

Big Blow for the Windies.

Subsequently, Kraigg Brathwaite is expected to hold the captaincy reins in the absence of Jason Holder.

“Jason has a partial thickness tear of his subscapularis tendon. He will undergo physiotherapy and strength work from the period November to December and will be reassessed in four weeks time,” Johnny Grave, CWI’s (Cricket West Indies) CEO, confirmed to Carribean News Service.

“The medical panel was concerned that if Jason was to bowl in Bangladesh, the partial tear may become a full tear which may involve the need for surgery and/or a significant break from cricket. It was, therefore, then recommended for Jason not to travel to Bangladesh and instead undergo physiotherapy and rehab in Barbados.”

The Windies will play two Test matches, three ODIs and three T20Is against Bangladesh, the series will commence from November 22. Therefore, Jason Holder will miss the whole tour and is also disappointed.

“I am definitely disappointed not being able to make the tour of Bangladesh, but based on advice from the medical team, we felt this was the best course of action to deal with the ongoing issues I have been having with my shoulder,” Holder said.

Both these teams had recently locked horns in the Carribean nation. The Windies had won the Test series whereas Bangladesh went on to win the ODI and T20I series. The first Test match will take place on 22 November at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium
