West Indies’ Test and ODI skipper, Jason Holder, has expressed his desire of achieving great results across all formats for the Caribbean side. Jason Holder further said that he might be leading the team in Test cricket but doesn’t want to be ‘pigeonholed’ in just one format and is determined to make a name for himself in all the three forms.

On 4 September 2015, Holder was named as the captain of the Test side for the tour to Sri Lanka. He became the second-youngest Test captain of all time for the West Indies and 15th youngest of all time for any Test-playing nation. Holder has also led the Windies in the ODI format and done exceptionally well across all formats for the team so far.

Holder has now expressed his desire of not being stuck to a single format and achieve results in all the formats for West Indies.

Jason Holder Wants To Excel In All 3 Formats For West Indies

“I don’t want to just segregate myself and pigeon-hole myself to one particular format,” Holder, who has been the captain of the Test side for the last five years besides leading the side in 86 ODIs, was quoted as saying by ‘windiescricket.com’.

“Yes I’m the captain for the Test team but as I’ve crossed formats for a number of years, I think my sole focus has been on West Indies cricket, ideally in all three formats not only in Test cricket. I think West Indies cricket is so diverse in many different ways and for us as players, we’ve got to understand each and everyone of us has a part to play in this whole puzzle,” he added.

Jason Holder Has Been  A Great Performer For Windies In Test Cricket Lately

In January 2019, Jason Holder scored his first double century in first-class cricket in his team’s second innings of the First Test at home against England at the Kensington Oval, his home ground. He struck a 295-run partnership with Shane Dowrich for the eighth-wicket helping his team secure a lead of 627 runs over England.

His 202* was the third-highest individual score by a number eight batsman in Tests. The West Indies went on to win the match by 381 runs, their most significant victory at home in terms of runs, and Holder was named man of the match.  He occupied the top spot in the all-rounders’ rankings announced following the game, the first West Indies player since Garfield Sobers in 1974.

Apart from it, he is placed at number three in the bowling charts and is the highest-ranked batsman for his country at the 35th spot.
