Jasprit Bumrah was one of India’s stand out performers in the World Cup. The expectations were sky high from the right-arm pacer and he duly delivered on the biggest stage of the game. He was equally impressive with the new ball and the old ball and was one of the reason why India made it to the semifinal.

Jasprit Bumrah finished the tournament as India’s highest wicket-taker. He picked up a staggering 18 wickets from 9 games. His economy-rate of 4.41 is the best among the bowlers who picked up seven or more wickets. But in the end, Jasprit Bumrah’s heroics could not take India over the line. India suffered a shocking 18-run loss at the hands of New Zealand in the semifinal to exit the competition.

Chasing 240 to win the first semifinal, India was dismissed for 221 with three balls remaining at Old Trafford. India started their chase disastrously and were reeling at 5 for 3. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul were back in the hut inside the first four overs. Dinesh Karthik could not do well either as India found themselves 4 down for 24.

Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya stopped the rot for a while before departing in quick succession to leave India reeling at 92 for 6. It looked all over for the Men in Blue at that stage before Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni joined hands to bail India out of trouble. The two went on to share a 116-run stand to revive India’s hopes.

However, Jadeja fell in the 48th over and Dhoni followed him to the pavilion in the 49th as India were all out for 221. This was the second time in a row that India exited the World Cup at the semifinal stage. Following the disappointing end to the tournament, Jasprit Bumrah tweeted a heartfelt message. The India pace spearhead thanked his teammates, support staff, families and the fans.

“A big thank you to all my team members, our coaches, support staff, our families and most importantly to all the undying support from all of you! We gave it everything we had! ??,” wrote Jasprit Bumrah.
