The International Cricket Council (ICC) has decided to scrap boundary count rule used to decide the result of a semi-final or final at an ICC event, in case of a tied Super Over. New Zealand all-rounder Jimmy Neesham had a hilarious reaction over the same.

Notably, the decision comes after the ICC World Cup 2019 final which stirred a lot of controversy around the world. New Zealand returned as the second-best team on account of a lower boundary count – a parameter which seemed to have a very little cricketing base. And now, on review by the ICC Cricket Committee, they decided to scrap the ruling

Instead, the apex body has come to the conclusion to continue the Super Over until the outcome of the match. ICC has also decided to start Super Overs in group games of any ICC events; however, it will continue until a winner is found as in semifinals and finals.

“In Semi-finals and Finals, there is one change to the Super Over regulation in keeping with the basic principle of scoring more runs than the opponent to win, the Super Over will be repeated until one team has more runs than the other,” the ICC stated in a release on Monday (October 14).

Jimmy Neesham, who was a part of the New Zealand squad that went down against England in the finals of the ICC World Cup 2019, poked fun at the apex body on their new move. The Kiwi batting coach Craig McMillan also took a dig at the international body.
