Joe Root Suffers Injury Scare Ahead of the Second Test

England Cricket team skipper Joe Root escaped injury scare ahead of the second Test against Windies at Antigua starting from January 31 (Thursday). Meanwhile, the visitors are currently 1-0 down in the three-match Test series.

According to reports in The Guardian, Joe Root got struck twice on his hands during the practice session; however, was lucky to escape any injury. The England skipper, who faced some tough challenges in the first Test, had an extended net session with the batting coach Mark Ramprakash.

It was during the second session of the morning that Root took a hit when a throwdown by the team analyst, Rupert Lewis hit him on the left hand after the ball reared up. A short while later Root was receiving treatment on his right thumb from the team doctor, Gurj Bhogal, after the fitness coach, Phil Scott, was guilty of striking him.

Root then switched ends and started facing balls from the shoulder of coach Trevor Bayliss and appeared to be in discomfort, taking his hand off the bat and shaking it at times. However, later on, Joe Root admitted that he was fine and there was no need to go to the hospital.

Meanwhile, the England team have some task at their hand after getting all out for 77 and 246 in the first Test. Following their loss, head coach Trevor Bayliss urged his players to show guts and determination to get through this tough period. Once the breakthrough came, Roston Chase ran down the middle-order and lower-order single-handedly with an eight-wicket haul.

The hosts have drafted another tearaway pacers Oshane Thomas in their ranks to test the England batsmen with stiff bouncers. The second Test starts from January 31 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua.
