England limited-overs captain Eoin Morgan has once again shown his faith in Joe Root as his side looks set to take on Australia in the ODI series. Joe Root, who was not included in the T20I series against Australia, has been named in the T20I squad. Eoin Morgan believes he will come up good for the side.

Morgan said that Root is one of the best players in the world and has been in great form. He also added that during the 2019 World Cup, Root proved how valuable a player he is. He however said that Root has been under-sold a lot of time, though he has a brilliant average and strike rate for a No.3 batsman.

“Joe is one of the best players in the world and been in great form at Yorkshire so hopefully he can take that form into this series,” Morgan, who will also return having missed the T20 defeat by Australia on Tuesday, told a news conference.

“Throughout the World Cup he showed how valuable a player he is to us. He is under-sold a lot of the time in white ball cricket, extremely versatile in what he does. His dot ball percentage is unbelievably low, his average is high, his strike rate high. From a number three that’s all you can ask.”

England Test captain Joe Root last played a T20I match in 2019 against Pakistan but is still realistically eyeing a spot in the England squad for the T20 World Cup next year. Joe Root knows he is far from contention in the shortest format as England have set players to feature in the shortest format and he has not been a regular.

Root had said that he is quite realistic in his approach and within the shake-up of the things. He wants to do well for England as he wants the side to win the World Cups. He also said that if he is not among the best in the T20I squad, he will, however like to help the whoever is involved in the squad.

He has played 32 matches in T20Is and scored 893 runs at an average over 35.75 with five half-centuries to his name.
