It seems like Steve Smith is back to the game again. Right in his first interview, Steve Smith sent a challenge to Jofra Archer saying that he is yet to dismiss him in the game. He feels that being hit on the helmet is a common thing, especially, on a pitch, which has a bit of uneven bounce.

On the fourth day of the second Test match played at Lord’s, Smith was hit on the back of the neck by a bouncer from Archer bowled at over 90mph. Smith was batting on 80 when he was struck by the debutant Archer.

Smith left the field immediately after getting some treatment from the Australian team doctor but he got back to the crease and scored another 12 runs before getting out. Steve Smith later showed signs of a delayed concussion and was subsequently ruled out of the final day’s play at Lord’s and then the third Test, as a result of the injury.

Other bowlers got me a lot of times – Steve Smith

In Smith’s first Test series since he completed a 12-month ban for his role in a ball-tampering scandal that cost him the Australia captaincy, he has scored 144 and 142 in the opener at Edgbaston, and 92 at Lord’s. He followed it up with another beautiful knock to help his side stay in a solid position in the second Test.

“There’s been a bit of talk that he’s got the wood over me, but he hasn’t actually got me out,” said Smith of Archer. “He hit me on the head on a wicket that was a bit up and down at Lord’s. All the other bowlers have had more success against me, I daresay. I’ve faced them a bit more, but they’ve all got me out a lot more.”

I was a bit sad –

Further, Steve Smith went on to add saying that the thoughts in the dressing room immediately went to recollect the incident of Philip Hughes. However, Steve Smith quickly adjusted his mindset to be back with a force.

“I had a few things running through my head, particularly where I got hit,” said Smith. “That was probably the first thing I thought about. Then I was like, ‘I’m OK here’. I was a bit sad, but I was alright mentally for the rest of that afternoon.”

All in all, it is a scary moment for Steve Smith. However, the flamboyant batsman is back and will play a game with Derbyshire before returning to the playing XI in the fourth Test, which is to be played at Old Trafford.
