The battle between Jofra Archer and Steve Smith has been the talking point of the town so far in the Ashes before Ben Stokes played the innings of his life to level terms in the series. The duel reached its peak as Archer posed difficult questions to Smith who was coming from two centuries in the first Test.

Although Archer didn’t manage to get the former Aussie skipper out, he made life tough for Smith. Jofra Archer struck him twice with bouncers; the latter forced Smith to walk out of the field. Although he resumed later in the day but didn’t come back to bat in the second innings and missed the third Test due to delayed concussions.

As Steve Smith gear up to return to action, he has played down the Jofra Archer threat. He said that despite troubling him, Archer is yet to get him out in a Test match.

“There’s been a bit of talk that he’s got the wood over me, but he hasn’t actually got me out. He hit me on the head on a wicket that was a bit up and down at Lord’s. All the other bowlers have had more success against me, I daresay. I’ve faced them a bit more, but they’ve all got me out a lot more,” Smith said.

Jofra Archer, in a similar fashion like his aggressive bowling, gave a fitting reply to Steve Smith’s comments. The Barbados-born pacer said Smith has to be out there batting for him to get him out while referring to the bouncer that made Smith unavailable for the 3rd Test. He also revealed that he wants to win the Ashes and not only compete with one man.

“Well, I can’t get him out if he wasn’t there. But there’ll be more than ample time to get him out. Archer said.

“I’m not saying I won’t get him out but if we don’t get him out there are 10 other people we can get out and if he’s stranded on 40 that’s not helping his team too much. He can’t do it all himself. We want to win the game. I’m not here to get caught up in a contest with one man. I want to win the Ashes,” Archer concluded.
