New Zealand registered a thumping victory against England by an innings and 65 runs at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui. They stunned the visitors with all-round displays beating in all the departments. However, England star pacer Jofra Archer has made startling claims of racial slurs during the first Test which can hurt the Kiwis badly as the International Cricket Council (ICC) has a zero-tolerance policy on racist remarks.

Meanwhile, speaking about the game, England had only themselves to blame for the defeat. Starting the day with seven wickets in the tank and 90 overs to negotiate, they had begun well with just one wicket lost upto lunch even if that was a crucial one of Joe Root. Joe Denly continued to be resilient and found an able ally in the ever-dogged Ben Stokes, as the duo batted into the afternoon session.

Jofra Archer brings serious allegations

With Trent Boult being ruled out of the day, it did seem like the Kiwis would struggle to force a win. That’s when their veteran Tim Southee stepped up. In a probing spell post-lunch, he eventually induced a false stroke from Ben Stokes and that opening was enough for Wagner who struck thrice in the span of 15 minutes to all but seal the deal. Sam Curran and Jofra Archer did stitch a handy stand to extend things beyond tea but Niel Wagner returned to finish the formalities and register another 5-fer in Tests.

Soon after the game, the Barbados-born fast bowler, Archer has brought serious allegations against the New Zealand crowd. Jofra Archer claimed that he heard racial insults from one guy while he was batting to save England from losing the Test match.

“A bit disturbing hearing racial insults today whilst battling to help save my team , the crowd was been amazing this week except for that one guy , @TheBarmyArmy was good as usual also,” Jofra Archer tweeted.

Furthermore, Jofra Archer while speaking to ESPNcricinfo, said that the abuser was one New Zealand spectator, who had been commenting about the colour of his skin. The bowler claimed that the same person had seemingly contacted him on Instagram with additional insults. New Zealand Cricket confirmed the incident and apologised to the cricketer.

“I don’t think it would happen in England,” Archer told ESPNcricinfo.
