England star Jonny Bairstow has reacted for the first time since being dropped from the Test squad. The wicketkeeper-batsman faced the axe for the upcoming tour of New Zealand due to his recent woes in red-ball cricket. Jonny Bairstow lost his place in the Test squad in the wake of his poor performance in Ashes.

While Bairstow continues to be one of England’s main man in ODIs, his form in Tests has not been up to the mark. He averaged just 23.77 in the recent Ashes series. The performance in the Ashes only extended his poor run in Tests that has seen him hit just three hundreds in his last 56 innings (since the start of 2017).

Well, the right-handed batsman has now vowed to ‘come back stronger and better’ as he looks to win back his place again. He admitted that not being a part of the team is disappointing before stating that it would give him a chance to train.

“It’s obviously disappointing not to be on the tour,” Jonny Bairstow told Sky Sports. “But at the same time it gives you a chance to have a training period. It’s quite rare you get that time to go away and work on your game. So it’s a fantastic opportunity for me to do that. I want to come back stronger and better. It’s not the first time it’s happened [being dropped by England].

“I’m not the kind of person to rest on their laurels. It will be case of dusting myself down, having a couple of weeks off, reflecting on the summer and then getting back to it,” he added.

Bairstow starred in England’s triumphant World Cup campaign at the start of the summer, scoring over 500 runs and two centuries as the hosts lifted the trophy for the first time in history. Meanwhile, recent reports also suggest that England team-management is not keen on Bairtow keeping the wickets. They think that Bairstow struggles with the bat when he keeps the wickets. In such case, Jos Buttler is likely to take the responsibility or England can also recalle Ben Foakes.
