England’s thumping 106-run win over Bangladesh on Saturday was overshadowed by a hip injury to Jos Buttler. The wicketkeeper-batsman is now a serious doubt for Friday’s match against West Indies. England bounced back in style from the shock defeat by Pakistan at Trent Bridge to blow away Bangladesh.

The hosts scored a daunting total of 386 for 6 in the allotted 50 overs. Opening batsman Jason Roy top-scored with 153 as England posted their highest-ever World Cup total. Jos Buttler impressed too, blasting 64 from just 44 balls. However, he could not come out to field after injuring his hip while heaving spinner Mosaddek Hossain for a huge six out of the ground in the 38th over of England’s innings.

Following the game, England skipper Eoin Morgan insisted that the injury was not serious. He also insisted that Buttler not coming out to field was a precautionary measure.

“There’s no serious concern at the moment,” he said. “He’s going to be monitored over the next 48 hours but at the moment it’s more precautionary rather than not being able to do his job.”

However, when pressed on the chances of Buttler being fit for England’s next match against West Indies at Southampton on Friday, Morgan admitted:

“It depends on the risk of him making his injury worse. The worry would be he has to take a high catch and make his hip worse.

“There are six days between now and the next game. We’ll use every day as much as we can to get try to get him back on the park. If he is a risk going into the next game, it might not be worth it,” he added.

Talking about the game, England bowled out Bangladesh for 280 to get back to winning ways. Shakib Al Hasan became just the second Bangladesh player to score a century in the World Cup but it was not enough to take his side home.
