Of late, England wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler has had a rough time in Test cricket. Having helped England lift the World Cup in 2019, Buttler has been unable to replicate his ODI form into the longer version of the game.

Butler played five matches against South Africa and New Zealand, but the 29-year-old’s top score in those games was just 43 runs. Having endured such a torrid run in Tests, Buttler was nonetheless named in England’s Test squad for Sri Lanka tour.

The explosive batsman hasn’t given up though and hopes to replicate the likes of Virat Kohli, David Warner and Faf du Plessis, who have performed consistently across formats down the years.

Jos Buttler eager to repay the selectors’ faith in him:

Talking in his interview on Monday, Buttler said he is eager to replicate the performances of some of the best batsmen in the world.

“There’s a crop of guys who are the best in the world, and they’re the best across all formats. They manage to do it,” said Buttler.

He continued, “But the best players can play all formats. You want to play all the games, be involved in all the formats. I certainly do.”

Despite his dry-run in Test cricket, the Englishman has been backed by the selectors, and he’s looking to repay their faith with the upcoming games.

Buttler further added, “You’ve always got to be positive. Obviously I haven’t played as well as I’d have liked in the majority of the winter, but you don’t become a bad player overnight so I’m looking to repay some faith and get back to playing my best cricket.”

“When you’re playing well you feel like you make the right decisions a lot of the time. You feel in a very good head space. I just feel like I haven’t been able do that often enough,” he signed off.

Having defeated South Africa in Test and T20I series, the English team will head to Sri Lanka to play two Test starting with the first one on 19 March, at Galle.
