In yet another political incident, an unnamed aircraft flew over the Headingley stadium during the ongoing match between India and Sri Lanka in Leeds. The banner had pro-Kashmir comments on it.  Just a few minutes after the match began, the aircraft flew over the ground, carrying the banner ‘Justice for Kashmir’.

The ICC has zero tolerance for political or racist slogans. Just like last time, the ICC has once again condemned the act. Soon after the plane flew over the Headingley, the ICC released a statement to express their disappointment over the same.

“We are incredibly disappointed this has happened again. We do not condone any sort of political messages at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. Throughout the tournament, we have worked with local police forces around the country to prevent this type of protest occurring. After the previous incident, we were assured by West Yorkshire Police there would not be a repeat of this issue, so we are very dissatisfied it has happened again,” the ICC said.

Talking about the tournament, India have already made it to the semifinal. They will be looking to beat Sri Lanka to keep alive their hopes of finishing at the top of the points table. But if Australia manage to beat South Africa, India would finish second irrespective of the result. In such a case, India will have to lock horns with hosts England in the semifinal. England, Australia and New Zealand are the other teams in the semifinal.
