Australian cricketers dominated the IPL 2020 auction in Kolkata without a second thought. Pat Cummins was the talk of the town after he was sold to Kolkata Knight Riders for a whopping price tag of INR 15.5 crore. In the process, he became the most expensive overseas signing in the Indian Premier League beating Ben Stokes’ transfer record of INR 14.5 crore to Rising Pune Supergiant (now-defunct IPL franchise) in the 2017 IPL auction.

Glenn Maxwell became the second expensive signing after Pat Cummins in the recently-concluded auction as he was purchased by Kings XI Punjab for INR 10.75 crore. Star opener Chris Lynn and Nathan Coulter-Nile were drafted in by Mumbai Indians. In what was an absolute steal, Chris Lynn was bought at his base price of INR 2 crore, while Coulter-Nile was purchased at a price tag of INR 8 crore.

Justin Langer confident that IPL will help his players do well in marquee events

Meanwhile, Australia men’s cricket team head coach Justin Langer is confident that the upcoming Indian Premier League period will help his players perform well at the T20 World Cup next year. “In this cycle, it is hopefully going to be really valuable to us with two T20 World Cups coming up, we have talked a lot about the emphasis we are putting on T20 cricket,” Justin Langer was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.

The 49-year-old highlighted that playing a handful of T20 games will help the players fine-tune their skills in the shorter format. “But from a purely big-picture point of view from us, the fact they are going to play 10-14 T20 games, where we will play in two years, and with the World Cup next season that can only help their skills. Hopefully, it’s a win-win for everyone,” the former Australia opener added in a statement.
