South Africa will firmly be the underdogs when they lock horns against India in the upcoming T20Is and Tests. India will host the Proteas for three T20Is and as many Tests later this month. Both the teams have performed quite differently in the last one year or so. While India have looked almost invincible across formats, South Africa have struggled to do well.

Earlier this year, they lost a home Test series to Sri Lanka before exiting the World Cup at the group stage. Unsurprisingly, India will be the firm favourites for the upcoming series. South Africa will have to play out of their skins in order to get a positive result. Well, their pace spearhead Kagiso Rabada is counting on the past experiences of playing in India.

“You need to figure out what you need to do to give the team a better chance to win – that is what I try to focus on. When you have played there before‚ you will have an idea of what to do in certain tough situations,” he said at South Africa’s training camp.

Last time South Africa visited India for a bilateral series, it had turned out to be very productive for them. The Proteas had won both the T20I and the ODI series although they had lost the Tests. India had thoroughly outplayed South Africa in the Tests and Rabada has not forgotten that drubbing.

“The previous tour we were successful because we won the T20 and ODI series but the Test series was a bit of a shambles because those wickets were just terrible‚” Rabada said.

“If I could give an example‚ the first Test match it was 200 v 200 in first innings. If we batted first‚ it was going to be a different ball game because we ended up having to chase the game. We lost 3-0 and we were truly hammered,” he added.
