Kane Williamson Defends Misfiring Jasprit Bumrah, Calls Him A Big Threat Ahead Of Test Series

Jasprit Bumrah’s form since his return to action has been really surprising. The India pace spearhead has surprisingly struggled to get wickets since he returned to action last month after a lengthy spell on the sideline due to a back injury. Since his return, he has managed to pick up just one wicket in six ODIs.

He picked up that one wicket against Australia during the three-match ODI series at home. In the just-concluded three-match ODI series against New Zealand, Jasprit Bumrah could not pick a single wicket. His struggles with the ball was one of the reasons why India suffered a humiliating whitewash.

The Men in Blue could not defend 347 in the first game and 297 in the third game as Jasprit Bumrah failed to give the team the early breakthroughs. But while Jasprit Bumrah’s form might be a major concern for Team India ahead of the upcoming two-match Test series against Black Caps, Kane Williamson believes that the India pacer will still be a big threat.

Speaking after the third ODI, the New Zealand captain did not read too much into Bumrah’s struggle to take wickets and stated that he would be a threat whenever he would bowl in the Test series. Kane Williamson also said that Jasprit Bumrah has been boiling nicely despite the lack of wickets.

“Ah no, the formats are so different. We know Bumrah is a world-class bowler in all of the formats, so he’s a threat when he has the ball in his hand and I don’t think there’s too much to look into it. He’s obviously back into his cricket after a period of time as well. But from what I saw, he’s bowling really nicely,” Kane Williamson said after the match ended.

India and New Zealand will play two Tests, starting from February 21.
