New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson is bitterly disappointed after speculations have surfaced of a racial abuse targeted at England’s fast bowler Jofra Archer. According to Williamson, racial abuse on the field is deemed contrary to the spirit of the gentleman’s game and he wants to personally apologise to the bowler on behalf of Kiwis.

Kiwis captain also admitted that he was absolutely shocked to hear about the incident and added that his teammates were unaware of the incident until the England pacer took to Twitter to explain his ordeal on Monday night. Archer was racially abused by a spectator during the final day of the first-Test defeat by New Zealand.

The 24-year-old bowler who was making his maiden appearance in an overseas Test match for England echoed that he heard some infamous remarks from “one guy” at the Bay Oval. After the home T20I series defeat at the hands of England, New Zealand responded straight away with the collective performance. As a result, the visitors lost the match in Mount Maunganui by an innings and 65 runs.

Kane Williamson to meet Jofra Archer soon

Kane Williamson said that he can only apologise on behalf of Kiwis to Jofra Archer and at the same time, he hopes that the racial abuse incident never happens again in their country. “It’s certainly against everything that we as Kiwis are about, and I certainly hope that nothing like that ever happens again. I can only apologise on behalf of Kiwis to Jofra, not only from our team and how we look to conduct ourselves, but what we expect of Kiwis in general.

It’s a horrific thing. In a country, and a setting where it is very much multi-cultural, it’s something we need to put to bed quickly and hope nothing like that ever happens again. It certainly won’t if there’s any influence we can have on it. Was I shocked? Absolutely, 100 per cent. I will try to see him over the next few days if I can, definitely,” Williamson told Stuff.co.nz.

“A bit disturbing hearing racial insults today whilst battling to help save my team, the crowd was been amazing this week except for that one guy, @TheBarmyArmy was good as usual also,” Archer tweeted.

After England fast bowler Archer tweeted about the incident, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) issued a release which confirmed that they would be making an official apology to him. “NZC has zero-tolerance towards abusive or offensive language at any of its venues and will refer any developments in the case to the police,” the statement said.
