New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson’s county stint with Yorkshire is cut down after his Indian Premier League (IPL) workload.

Earlier, the right-hander was not in contention to play all the matches for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. However, as the IPL door for David Warner was shut down after the ball-tampering scandal, SRH captaincy was handed over to Williamson.

Furthermore, Williamson’s form with the bat was outstanding, as he had led in all the match for the Orange Army.

New Zealand Cricket wants to manage Williamson workload.

Thus, to manage the workload of their skipper, New Zealand Cricket has decided to curtail the number of County matches.

The Yorkshire director Martin Moxon is not happy by the new development of events.

Obviously the club are disappointed by the reduced amount of cricket Kane will be available for, but he will still play a significant amount for us and we look forward to welcoming a player of his calibre back in due course,” Yorkshire’s director of cricket Martin Moxon said as saying by the club’s website.

Imperative to manage the workload of players.

Moxon added it is disappointing for Yorkshire. The Club will have to adjust the number of matches Williamson would play for them.

Meanwhile, Kane is currently the leading run-getter in this season of IPL with 685 runs.

“When Kane originally signed for us and New Zealand Cricket accepted the dates, it was thought that he wouldn’t play every game in IPL and that he wouldn’t be captain. But, with David Warner getting banned, he became captain of Sunrisers and has consequently played every game, so New Zealand Cricket wants him to have more of a rest. We’re frustrated, obviously, and counties are having to deal with this sort of thing all the time,” he added.

It makes sense from the New Zealand Cricket perspective to manage the workload of their skipper. However, Yorkshire will have to pay the price, as Williamson will play limited matches for them.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli was to play in the County Championship for Surrey. However, as the Indian skipper suffered a neck injury in the IPL, his preparation for the England tour took the hammering.

As the schedule of International players is getting intensive, it is becoming more important to manage the workload of the players smartly. Thus, to cut down on the workload of players, it is imperative to give them rest at the right time.
