India’s World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev is in favor of the Virat Kohli-MS Dhoni combination when it comes to the 2019 mega event. Under the captaincy of Kohli, India registered their maiden limited-overs series win over South Africa in the rainbow nation. While Kohli was prolific with the bat, Dhoni’s experience was instrumental in India wrapping the ODI series 5-1 and T20I series 2-1.

“If you can have the combination there is nothing wrong because you need to have somebody on the field who is calm and quiet and also understand the game and somebody who is very aggressive,” Kapil referred to the winning combination of Kohli and Dhoni.

If everybody is aggressive, then it’s difficult: Kapil Dev

He feels that the mix up of calmness and aggression will do India good.”But if everybody is very aggressive, then its difficult. And again if everyone is calm, then also it is difficult. So if you can have a combination of both aggression and calmness, I think it will help the team.” Kapil added.

Talking about all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who often gets compared to Kapil, the legendary cricketer said that he has a long way to go.”He (Pandya) has shown the glimpse. He has the talent and the ability. Comparing with anyone puts more pressure on him. I would like to see him go and express himself, enjoy himself,” Kapil said.

Kapil had an advice for Pandya. He said if Pandya gets decent scores under his belt then his bowling will improve too. “I would like to see him in the team for one reason, definitely either as a bowler or as batsman. He has to work little harder on his batting because he is a batsman all-rounder. If he can perform a little more with the bat, the bowling will come easy to him and that’s what happens to all-rounders,” said Kapil.

“We have started expecting too much from him soon but I think he has the ability and is one of the finest athletes in the team. But he has to work harder to achieve success as an all-rounder,” he added.
