BCCI’s Ombudsman and Ethics Officer DK Jain has said that he has rendered the conflict of interest complaint against Kapil Dev as “infructuous” after the former India captain stepped down from his multiple cricketing roles. As per the BCCI constitution, no person can occupy more than one post at the same time.

Jain, who is into the last month of his one-year contract with the BCCI, had earlier rendered infructuous the charge against Shantha Rangaswamy and Anshuman Gaekwadin December after they also stepped down from their multiple posts.

All three of them were part of the Cricket Advisory Committee(CAC) but resigned in September after MPCA life member Sanjeev Gupta had levelled conflict of interest allegations against them.

Now, BCCI has formed a new CAC.

Jain had called Rangaswamy, Gaekwad and Kapil for a personal hearing on December 27 and 28 in Mumbai but the World Cup-winning captain did not appear due to personal reasons. As per the BCCI constitution, no person has the right to hold multiple positions within the cash-rich board.

“The complaint against Kapil has been rendered infructuous,” Jain told PTI.

Appointed at Rs 15 lakh per month, the ombudsman and ethics officer’s role was to look into cases of conflict in Indian cricket and violation of rules as per the newly-drafted board constitution.
In doing so, Justice Jain took on some of the biggest names in Indian cricket as and when complaints were received.
