Kapil Dev Gives Big Statement On Alleged Rift Between Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma

The way things are panning out at the moment, the report of a rift between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma is looking more than just a rumour. And former India skipper Kapil Dev has only added fuel to the fire by saying that Kohli and Rohit can have “differences off the field”. Kapil Dev’s statement pretty much makes it clear that reports of rift are not merely rumours.

The reports surfaced as soon as India exited the World Cup with a defeat to New Zealand in the semifinal. Reports suggested that the Indian dressing room has been divided into two halves with one half backing Kohli and the other half backing Rohit. Kohli did try to rubbish the reports before the team’s departure to the United States on Monday but it has not made much of a difference.

“There can be off the field differences but it depends how you play on the field. Everyone should look into that,” Kapil Dev told PTI.

“Off the field, the way of thinking can be different, approach can be different. But when you’re playing there’s only one aim — how we can win a match. That is important. Differences of opinion does not mean you will be pulling somebody down,” added the World Cup-winning skipper.

Kapil Dev went on to take a dig at the media, accusing them of creating rumours.

“You have to do your job, right. Thoda bahut toh aap bhi help karte ho naa rumour banane mein (You people also do your bit in spreading rumours),” he said.

Kapil, meanwhile, is the head of the Cricket Advisory Committee which will select India’s next head coach. Ravi Shastri’s tenure will end after the tour of West Indies.
