After lifting the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2017-18, Karun Nair revealed it was a great effort from the camp throughout the five-over competition.

He stated players stepped up to contribute in one way or another to script the glory in the domestic fold.

“It was amazing. Like I said, we have all played as a team. In every single situation someone put his hand up,” Nair was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz after lifting the coveted trophy.

The 26-year old Karun Nair-led Karnataka from the front in the List-A competition. The right-handed batsman pointed out that it could not be all about an individual.

“If you need to win a tournament I think everyone has to put in some contribution, it cannot be just person,” Nair remarked.

Since 2013, Karnataka lifted the title twice which further saw them crashing out following the bleak performances.

Satisfied with the victory, Nair-led Karnataka defended the total of 253. Cheteshwar Pujara-led Saurashtra was folded out on 212 in 46.3 overs.

Pujara was the only hope for Saurashtra, who scored 94 off 127 balls before Nair affected his dismissal as a run-out. It subsequently led Karnataka to win the title to rout strong force Saurashtra by 41 runs.

“We were very much eager to win this tournament. All over the season we did really well and it was just that we got to few important stages [where] we missed out on one odd session and we were out of the tournament,” Nair further said.

Moreover, Nair believes the rest of the batsmen have equally come good which has been the secret of success for Karnataka.

“Although Mayank has been doing the bulk of the scoring, but we still need the other guys to support everyone and I think we have been doing that,” Nair said.

Nair credits Mayank Agarwal for an impressive run across formats in the domestic circuit.

“It was pretty amazing. Every time he went out to bat, we knew that he was going to score big. Hats off to him,” Nair said of Agarwal.

Expecting to bag trophies in the foreseeable future, Karnataka is in good stead with youngsters rising to the occasion, according to Nair.

“As well as the youngsters bowling as well everyone put up their hand [when required]. I think we are in the right direction and we hope to win more trophies,” Nair asserted.

While reflecting on the team, Nair is confident to put a stump across three formats in the domestic fold.

“So we all were really disappointed because we have the team to win in all three formats, every year around. So, we were really looking forward to win this tournament and get back to winning ways,” Karun Nair added.

However, it was opening batsman Agarwal, who scored runs at the top. The 27-year old aggressive batsman was adjudged Man of the final for 79-ball 90 runs.

On the other side, Agarwal, who is in the red-hot form stated he mission is to perform while dodging the questions over his non-selection for the impending Nidahas Trophy 2018.

“Selection not in my control,” Agarwal concluded.

Recently, Karnataka had a tough time when the side was beaten by Rajasthan in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy before being shown an exit door by Punjab in the Super-over.

Last year (2017), Karnataka crashed out of Ranji Trophy campaign when they lost the semi-final by five runs.

Nair was dismissed on a duck in the final after facing four balls. However, he has knitted his team well.
