Karun Nair left a mark on Test cricket early in his career. He scored an unbeaten triple hundred in his third innings, thus becoming the quickest in Test history to achieve the feat. Karun Nair, with his knock of 303 not out against England at the M.A Chidambaram Stadium in 2016, also became the only second Indian after Virender Sehwag to score a Test triple century. It looked like India has found a new Test player in Karun Nair but destiny had some other plans.

Karun Nair was included in the 18-man Test squad for England tour but it only saw him on the bench. Hanuma Vihari was preferred over him as he did not get a single opportunity in the series. Later in 2018, Karun Nair was not picked up for the home Tests against the West Indies, and from then on there has been no comeback opportunity for the Karnataka batsman.

Karun Nair was left out of the Indian squad for the Test series against the Windies, and MSK Prasad said on Monday that the player himself had been told the reasons.

Karun Nair not getting a comeback opportunity heartbreaking: MSK Prasad

Former chief selector MSK Prasad oversaw the period when Karun Nair did not get a chance to play in England and was subsequently snubbed from the West Indies series. Prasad said it was rare and it’s really heartbreaking for him that he could not be served with a comeback opportunity which he rightly deserved.

“Specially after getting the triple hundred. we couldn’t give him comeback opportunity. We did give him in England series but he didn’t get a match to play. It happens very rarely that someone hits a triple hundred in international cricket and and we couldn’t give him a comeback opportunity, it’s really heartbreaking, not only for him but all of us,” MSK Prasad told Fancode.

Nair, however, has been regularly featuring for Karnataka in domestic circuit. He has a brilliant average of 48.12 in first-class cricket.
