Windies Cricket (WC) has named young seamer, Keemo Paul for the third and final Test against Sri Lanka starting from June 23 at Kensington Oval, Barbados.
Meanwhile, he will replace Shimron Hetmyer, who is suffering from an illness. The management wants an entirely fit Hetmeyer ahead of the two-day practice game against Bangladesh later this month.
“Hetty is a big part of our future and now we want him to recover fully from his illness, so he can be at his best for the warm-up match versus Bangladesh,” Stuart Law, the coach, said.
However, Paul hasn’t featured for Windies in Test cricket but has played four ODIs and T20Is each. He has five wickets in ODIs at an average of 25 and an economy of 3.94.
In his last outing for the Windies, in the one-off T20I charity clash against World XI, Paul picked up one for 24 from his three overs.
The hosts are currently 1-0 up in the three-match series. They won the first Test by 226 runs and then managed to draw the second contest in St. Lucia. It will be a day-night Test at Barbados, played with a pink ball.
Sri Lanka skipper, Dinesh Chandimal will miss the Test after ICC reprimanded him for his role in ball-tampering. ICC awarded him two suspension points and fined him 100 per cent of his match fees.
This series will be followed by a visit from Bangladesh later this month. They will play two Tests, three ODIs and three T20Is in the Caribbean Islands.
