Kevin Pietersen

Amid a twitter war between Kevin Pietersen and Mitchell Johnson, hosts Australia has gone on to reclaim the Ashes after winning the first three Tests of the ongoing five-match series against England. They have been exceptional in all three departments of the game while the Englishmen have failed to seize their opportunity at crucial junctures in the game which has eventually led to their downfall in the series.

Ahead of the Ashes, Australian speedster Mitchell Johnson tried to get under the skin of former English batsman Kevin Pietersen which eventually led to Pietersen blocking him. On 25th November, the 3rd day of Australia’s opening Ashes Test against England, Johnson taking to his twitter handle wrote “Hey @KP24 @MichaelVaughan yesterday were carrying on about the pommy fast bowlers being able to bowl in the 140’s. Ever since they’ve taken the second new ball, they’ve been bowling medium pace. They are allowed to bend their backs, and there’s 4 of them #ashes #sweatbandswinger.”

Pietersen was quick to respond to his tweet and slammed by asking whether it was him or his management tweeting on his behalf. “Mitchell, is this you or your management tweeting? If it’s you, you not helping yourself! If it’s your management, ask them to stop or sack them,” Pietersen had said. Johnson expected a better answer from Pietersen and sarcastically wrote, “Good response #flog.”

Following this tweet, Pietersen blocked Johnson on Twitter, and the former fast-bowler shared a screenshot on his twitter handle which said, “@KP24 blocked you”. Following a week Pietersen defended his actions of blocking Pietersen on twitter as he felt that it was pointless to answer Johnson’s comments. He expressed dissatisfaction at the manner Johnson tweeted to him.

Speaking to Fox Sports Pietersen said, “I don’t want to see garbage, and I don’t understand the aggression and the manner he’s conducted himself on social media, and so what’s the point in looking at it? When you’re a past player, and you’re not a current player, to use tactics you would use if you were bowling a fast, aggressive spell on social media platforms … I just don’t get,” quoted Kevin Pietersen.

“A lot of people didn’t get (it) really. We were all confused in the commentary box and the press box were … we were all completely dumbfounded. And that’s why I said ‘if your management are tweeting for you, if it’s not you, you should probably sack them because I don’t think it’s doing him any favours in the bigger scheme of things because there’s cricket and then there’s life around cricket, and I don’t know what realm he wants to try and fit into as an ex-player. So that’s why I said, ‘I’m out.”
