Former England batsman Kevin Pietersen has taken a hilarious shot at the ongoing Cricket World Cup. Rain continues to play spoilsport in the tournament going on in England and Wales. On Thursday, India’s game against New Zealand was washed out in Nottingham. It was fourth abandonment in this year’s World Cup, more than the previous highest number of abandoned games in the competition – two matches – in 1992 and 2003.

Fans across the globe are ruining the affect of rain in the World Cup. In the last four days, three games have been abandoned because of rain.  The weather forecast for the upcoming games is not promising at all. It would not be at all surprising if more games are called off due to rain. The International Cricket Council (ICC) is looking hapless at the moment.

Meanwhile, ICC chief executive Dave Richardson has ruled out the possibility of having reserve day for league games in the World Cup. Currently only the World Cup semi-finals and final have a reserve day factored in.

“Factoring in a reserve day for every match at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup would significantly increase the length of the tournament and practically would be extremely complex to deliver,” said Richardson.

“It would impact pitch preparation, team recovery and travel days, accommodation and venue availability, tournament staffing, volunteer and match officials availability, broadcast logistics and very importantly the spectators who in some instances have travelled hours to be at the game. There is also no guarantee that the reserve day would be free from rain either,” he added.
