Former England batsman Kevin Pietersen worries about the lack of ‘Entertainers and Superstars’ in the game. In fact, Pietersen believes it is a concerning sign for the game. Meanwhile, former combative England batsman thinks India’s skipper Virat Kohli is an exception. Virat Kohli has been a consistent performer in all the three forms of the game.

Meanwhile, Kevin Pietersen believes the former legendary players should stay close to the game to inspire the next generation. Most of the former players are doing commentary. However, Pietersen wants them to be closer to the national side or the T20 franchise. Interestingly, Kevin Pietersen is himself part of the commentary box. He was part of the commentary panel in the Asia Cup.

Virat Kohli is an exception.

“I really struggle to see entertainers, they’re lacking in the game,” Pietersen was told BBC Radio 5 live’s Sportsweek.

“Kohli is an exception. But otherwise pure entertainers and superstars are not in the game and that’s a big worry,” he added.

Pietersen believes that the former players should stay close to the game and should provide their insights.

Kevin Pietersen wants former players to engage in coaching roles.

“Maybe it’s a generational thing but the sad part is that quite a few of those former players are commentating but they are not in the game of cricket,” he said.

“You want those superstars attached to franchises, national sides and academies so that youngsters get inspired to be those people.”

Therefore, Pietersen believes that the national boards should come up with better offers for the ex-players if they want to engage them in coaching roles. As compared, the commentary is like a walk in the park for the players and it also gives them a good return.

“They have to get paid more because the money for commentary, which is a pretty easy gig, is fairly good,” added Pietersen.

Kevin Pietersen was a perfect entertainer in his playing days. He always liked to take the attack on the opposition and hit the ground running.
