On Tuesday, the head coach of the West Indies Cricket Team Phil Simmons stated that they are banking heavily on the IPL experience of Kieron Pollard. Having played for more than ten years, Phil Simmons believes Kieron Pollard will pass on the knowledge of the conditions to his bowlers during the game on Wednesday night at the Wankhede Stadium.

Kieron Pollard has played a lot of cricket in Mumbai. He is quite aware of the conditions and knows how the wicket plays there. Phil Simmons believes that Pollard’s experience will help the visiting bowlers. The fast bowling department of West Indies hardly played in India, as none of them ever entertained the IPL franchises in the past to get a contract.

Kieron Pollard has been here for 10 years – Phil Simmons

Apart from Kieron Pollard, the likes of Evin Lewis and Lendl Simmons have played at the Wankhede Stadium before. They both played for Mumbai Indians for a fair bit of time to have enough knowledge of the conditions in Mumbai. The head coach believes it will work in West Indies favour when they lock horns with India in the decider.

“(Kieron) Pollard has played a lot at this venue, the others have not played that much. I think the experience which they have got from here is invaluable and especially the captain (Pollard), as he has been here for 10 years. Pollard knows things inside out and that will definitely help our bowlers mainly, there are a few youngsters in this format. It will definitely help,” he said in the press conference.

I don’t worry about winning the toss –

Further, the head coach stated that teams should be prepared enough either if they are batting first or chasing a tally. He feels toss shouldn’t make an impact on the game. And also, he spoke about the ongoing rivalry between Virat Kohli and Kesrick Williams, which attracted massive attention from the fans.

“I think you have got to be prepared at the beginning for doing either one of them. If you win the toss you are prepared to do good, whichever one we decide to do tomorrow (match-day). You can lose the toss. I don’t worry about the toss too much. The banter has been good, it has been interesting because they are 1-1 now because he (Virat) got Kesrick in the first match and Kesrick got him in the second. Let’s see who wins it tomorrow (match-day),” he said.

Well, it would be interesting to see how things would turn out on Wednesday. Both the teams have enough firepower in their dugout to make things fall in place for their respective sides.
