Guyana Amazon Warriors Rope In Nicholas Pooran For CPL 2019

Guyana Amazon Warriors have roped in highly-rated Nicholas Pooran as their Marquee Player for the forthcoming season of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). The wicketkeeper-batsman had plied his trade for the Barbados Tridents last year. It was a poor season for the Tridents as they finished at the bottom of the points table with just two wins from 10 games.

Pooran, meanwhile, has so far played 11 T20 Internationals for the West Indies and is fast becoming a popular figure in franchise cricket across the globe. The hard-hitting youngster has also made it to West Indies’ World Cup squad. Pooran recently plied his trade for Kings XI Punjab in the just-concluded Indian Premier League and made a big impression.

After not getting a chance in the playing eleven initially, he ended up playing seven games. In those seven outings, the left-handed batsman scored 168 runs at a strike-rate of 157. He hit 10 fours and 14 sixes in his maiden season of the Indian Premier League.

The Amazon Warriors, meanwhile, will be Pooran’s third team in the CPL. He had started his careerwith the Trinbago Knight Riders before moving to the Tridents. The rest of the Amazon Warriors squad will be decided at the Hero CPL Player Draft which takes place on 22 May 2019.

Omar Khan, Team Operations Manager, for the Amazon Warriors, welcomed the new signing as he hoped Pooran would help the better their last year’s result when they finished runners-up.

“Nicholas is amongst the very best T20 batting talents in the world and we wanted to bring him into our team as we push to go one better than last year where we finished as runners-up. He is explosive and exciting, and we are very pleased to be able to have such an impressive young talent representing the Guyana Amazon Warriors this year,” said Khan.

Tridents, meanwhile, have lost two big names this year already. Prior to losing Pooran, their skipper Kieron Pollard had moved to Trinbago Knight Riders. The CPL will take place from 4 September to 12 October.
