KKR Head Coach Brendon McCullum Hopes For Luck During IPL 2020 Auction

The head coach of Kolkata Knight Riders Brendon McCullum is hopeful of cards falling in their way during the time of the IPL 2020 auction. He will be in the house alongside the officials of Kolkata Knight Riders for the selection of players during the auction time. For the first time in his cricketing career, Brendon McCullum will head into the tournament as head coach.

Recently, Indian Premier League (IPL) outfit Kolkata Knight Riders named former player Brendon McCullum as their head coach after the franchise decided to part ways with Jacques Kallis, post a dismal show in the 2019 season. Brendon McCullum retired from all forms of the game after his presence in Global T20 Canada.

Hope Cards will fall in our way – Brendon McCullum

Brendon McCullum, who will be in Kolkata for the IPL 2020 auction on Thursday, is hopeful that “the cards fall” in his franchise’s way during the auction. Brendon McCullum, who will be coaching two-time IPL winners Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for the upcoming edition, also believes all the planning and preparation behind the scenes for the auction will require some luck.

“On the way to Kolkata for the @IPL Player Auction. Our @KKRiders squad will be completed in just a couple of days’ time. All the planning & preparations behind the scenes will require some luck come auction night. Here’s hoping the cards fall our way,” Brendon McCullum tweeted.

The Kolkata Knight Riders stole the spotlight with the release of three high profile names in Robin Uthappa, Chris Lynn and Piyush Chawla ahead of the IPL 2020 player auctions, but will certainly find themselves in a comfortable position with a purse of  INR 35.65 Crore left to spend and 11 slots to fill.

The list of released and retained players is as follows:

Released: Robin Uthappa, Chris Lynn, Anrich Nortje, Piyush Chawla, Joe Denly, Yarra Prithviraj, Nikhil Naik, KC Cariappa, Matthew Kelly, Shrikant Mundhe and Carlos Brathwaite.

Retained: Dinesh Karthik, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Kuldeep Yadav, Shubman Gill, Lockie Ferguson, Nitish Rana, Sandeep Warrier, Harry Gurney, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Shivam Mavi, Siddhesh Lad.
