Venky Mysore, the CEO of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), has come up with a unique way through which fans get the taste of the action equivalent to being in a stadium. Globalisation has arguably come against its biggest test with sporting associations forced to revisit the system. While sports might return soon enough, it doesn’t seem like fans would accumulate in the stadium to enjoy it live. But Venky Mysore has suggested an interesting concept in the future with which the public don’t miss out on in-stadium action without ignoring the COVID-19 guidelines.

The chances of the 13th season of the Indian Premier League being held looks very bleak as of now. The BCCI initially postponed the lucrative tournament to April 15th from March 29th. However, the proliferating cases of the deadly virus meant that the board had to call it off indefinitely. The games taking place behind closed doors is one of the most feasible options. However, without crowd noises, the match would sound dull and dank.

During his interaction with ESPN Cricinfo, Venky Mysore highlighted the importance of technology during such testing times. To think out of the box, he suggested that an LED wall could be put up through which fans can make their presence virtually. While people have suggested simulation as a means, the same could also be implemented.

“Technology is going to play a massive role,” Mysore said. “I am just saying, if you’re thinking out of the box – an LED wall in stands where, through social media, [fans] can virtually be present there. There are people who’ll be reacting the same way if they were physically at the ground. People have said something about simulation too.” Mysore stated as quoted by Times Now.

Having stayed in the USA for several years, the public plays a substantial role, and home and away games become significant events there. Hence, Venky mentioned that touring parties used to bludgeon the crowd noises on to the speakers to get used to it. In those cases, the sound could be thunderous.

“I lived in the US for several years and became an American football fan. Home games and away games are big events there, because the crowd becomes your twelfth man. So what visiting teams used to do when they practised was blast the crowd noise on the speakers, just to get used it. The noise can be deafening in matches.”he added.
