Things are just not going KL Rahul’s way in Tests at the moment. His prolong loss of form as an opener is fast becoming a matter of concern. Fortunately for KL Rahul, he has been fully backed by the team-management but is yet to justify that faith.

The highly-rated opener, who is being persisted with despite several failures, managed to score only two fifty-plus knocks last year. While one was a fifty against Afghanistan at home, the other was his 149-run knock against England at the Oval when India had already lost the series. Time is running out for Rahul and he now desperately needs to deliver.

Before the tour of West Indies, Rahul had 12 single-digit scores in his last 24 Test innings. In fact, he scored 17 scores of  less than 20  in his last 24 innings. Consequently, he managed to score just 484 runs since November 2017 at an average of 21.59. What made things further worse for Rahul is the amount of balls he has faced. On an average, he has faced just 35 balls in an innings. It is the lowest number of balls per innings amongst all Indian batsmen.

His form in the Caribbeans remained the same. Rahul failed to get going in all the four innings he batted in. He got the starts in the first Tests, scoring 44 and 38 but failed to convert them. His form further worsened in the second Test as he managed to score only 13 and 6. Unsurprisingly, KL Rahul is facing the heat from the fans.

The fans have made life difficult for the right-hander by criticising him on social media. And as the trolls and criticism show no signs of coming to an end, Rahul took to Twitter to post a cryptic message. The opener posted a photo where  he could be seen wearing a t-shirt with the caption ‘ No social media’ while writing:

“The irony”.
