KL Rahul-led Kings XI Punjab ended up on the losing side for the third consecutive time on Sunday. On this occasion, the margin of defeat was comprehensive as Chennai Super Kings beat them by ten wickets in pursuit of a competitive total of 179. After KXIP’s bowlers could not pick up even a single scalp, KL Rahul has reacted to their woes.

Kings XI Punjab posted 178 in their stipulated 20 overs on the back of KL Rahul’s half-century and some fireworks by Mayank Agarwal and Nicholas Pooran. Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul shared an opening wicket stand of 61 after which the skipper put on another 58 with Pooran. The 17th over witnessed the dismissals of Rahul and Pooran that dented their hopes of reaching more than 190. Eventually, they had to settle with 178, which was hugely competitive.

KXIP’s bowlers could hardly put Shane Watson and Faf Du Plessis in a place of bother as both of them raised the tempo that the opening pair missed in the last couple of games. KL Rahul’s men also misfielded quite a bit, which allowed the duo to gain confidence in their hitting or striking power. Watson finished with 83 not out while Du Plessis remained unbeaten at 87. For Kings XI Punjab, Chris Jordan was the most expensive bowler, having conceded 42 runs in three overs.

KL Rahul was undoubtedly a distraught captain as he lamented the execution and stressed on trying harder till they get it right. KL Rahul felt that 178 was a competitive score on a pitch that was stopping when they were batting; however, the lack of early wickets cost them big time. The Karnataka batsman added that the players know where they are going wrong, cop the loss, and bounce back moving forward.

Look it’s hard being on the losing side for so many games, we’ve just got to keep trying harder. There’s no rocket science, we know where we’re going wrong. The execution part’s been bad. I thought 178 was a good score. The wicket stopped a bit when we started batting, we felt like 170-180 was par on this wicket. But we know if we don’t get wickets against players of this class, we’ll struggle.

We can attack and look for wickets if you’re going 7-8 an over, but when you’re going 10 an over at the start it’s a little difficult to be aggressive. They’re all professional players, they know where it’s going wrong. Having said that, we need to keep our chins up and keep training harder. Hopefully we’ll learn and we’ll bounce back,” Rahul said in the post-match presentation.
