In a bid to cement a permanent slot in the Indian team, KL Rahul has made an impact with his sublime scores over the past couple of weeks. Apart from batting well in different positions, the experienced campaigner took up the glovework as well.

Rishabh Pant was ruled out after suffering a concussion in the 1st ODI against Australia in Mumbai. The young dasher was declared unfit and since then he didn’t play a part in India’s recent outings. The team management didn’t go for an additional wicket-keeper to replace Pant and instead went ahead with Rahul.

At Eden Park. Rahul looked comfortable against the fast bowlers and dictated terms to the spinners as well. A 27-ball 56 from the opener laid the foundation. However, he was in to face a dicey question from a reporter post India’s 6-wicket victory. A reporter quizzed Rahul, “Do you see Pant coming back into the side and playing in this series?” Looking puzzled, he replied, “It’s not upto me, I mean…”

The internet has been over under-fire wicket-keeper batsman Pant for quite some time now. And with Rahul putting in stellar shows with the bat and neat work behind the stumps, Pant had to face a lot of flak.

Though we haven’t seen Rahul the wicket-keeper in the international circuit, the cricketer has donned the role of the gloveman for his IPL franchises over the years. “I’m quite honestly loving it. At the international stage, it might seem very new and it might seem like I’ve never kept. (But) I’ve kept for my IPL franchise for the last 3-4 years, and I’ve kept for my first-class team as and when there is an opening. I’ve still stayed in touch with wicket keeping.’ Rahul said.
