The series against Australia gave a lot of positives for the Indian National Cricket Team. One of the influential positives was KL Rahul’s wicket-keeping work, which gave the Indian team management a chance to add an extra batsman in the lineup.

Since then, he is doing the job for India in limited-overs formats by delivering goods on a regular basis. And, the recent example was the limited-overs series against New Zealand.

Though there were a few experts, who aren’t happy with the move, the Indian team management stick to their plan and the Karnataka player didn’t disappoint.

Despite keeping the wickets, Rahul showed his class with the bat at various positions to make things fall in place.

KL Rahul was always a wicket-keeper – Samuel Jayaraj

Speaking of the same, the childhood coach of Rahul, Samuel Jayaraj revealed that the right-handed batsman has always been a wicketkeeper-batsman right from the start of his career.

Jayaraj added that wicket-keeping always helped him to bat well, as his concentration on the ball increased with the new role.

“He was always a wicket-keeper. Wicketkeeping for India has come as a blessing in disguise for him. As a wicketkeeper, you have to keep a vigil on all 300 deliveries behind the wickets. Wicketkeeping has helped him in his batting,” Jayaraj, his childhood coach, told Times of India.

“When he was a kid, I used to ask him to keep the wickets. Wicketkeeping helps you with concentration. You only watch the ball and then move your hands and feet accordingly. That’s how Rahul has become a good batsman,” the coach further added.

Well, as the results turned out in favour of the Indian team, it looks like Rahul will play the same role for the national team in the near future. He may well end up doing the wicket-keeper role for India in the upcoming ICC T20I World Cup 2020 as well.

Currently, he is having his much-needed rest, as India take on New Zealand in the longer version of the game.

He will next be in the action for the home series against South Africa, which will be followed by the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020.
