Team India suffered a crushing loss at the hands of New Zealand in their first warm-up game on Saturday. In swinging conditions and on a green pitch at Lord’s, India’s batsmen looked all at sea and fell like a pack of cards. The Virat Kohli-led side were bowled out for 179, after initially falling to 39-4 against the new ball.

Trent Boult was the destructor-in-chief as he sent back Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul cheaply. Skipper Kohli got the start but before he could bat the team to a good score, Colin de Grandhomme castled him to reduce India to 39 for 4. Jimmy Neesham then dismissed Hardik Pandya and Dinesh Karthik inside an over to leave India reeling at 81 for 5. At one stage, it looked like a big possibility that the Men in Blue might get all out for less than 100.

However, Ravindra Jadeja scored an impressive fifty to guide Team India to a respectable total of 179. But the score turned out to be too less in the end. New Zealand, the runners-up of last World Cup, knocked off their target with ease after Ross Taylor (71) and Kane Williamson (67) put on 114 for the third wicket.

Team India will now be looking to get back to winning ways when they take on Bangladesh in their second warm-up game on May 28. The two-time winners will start their World Cup campaign on June 5 against South Africa.

But ahead of the World Cup, Kamaal Rashid Khan aka KRK has said that the performance against New Zealand is just the pointer to what to expect from the team in the main event. KRK took to Twitter to predict that India would not even reach the semifinal, saying:

“New Zealand beat India by 6 wickets with 77 balls to spare in the warm-up game. Ye Toh Sirf trailer hai, Film Abhi Baaki hai. #BCCITeam won’t reach to semi final of #ICCWC2019!”
