Shubman Gill has been in exceptional form for the India A’ team, posting scores of 90, 204, 62, 77, 69 and 40 in the lead up to series against South Africa. Gill had become the youngest Indian to score a first-class double century for an Indian representative side when he notched up an unbeaten 204 for the A’ team in the third unofficial Test against West Indies A.

All those good knocks helped him to get the maiden call-up for the Test format of the game. Though he haven’t got the chance to play against South Africa, the flamboyant cricketer has got the chance to rub shoulders with the greats of the game.

It was really a good learning curve – Shubman Gill

While he didn’t make the playing XI in any of the three games, Gill said he cherished the experience of sharing the dressing room with the best team in the world. He quoted that the team is going in right kind of direction following the series victories against West Indies and South Africa.

“It was a really good experience for me. Learning from the best team in the world. The form the Indian team is playing with right now… We haven’t lost even a single match. Even in West Indies, and here in India against South Africa. So, it was a really good learning curve for me,” he said.

Commenting on Rohit’s dream debut as Test opener in this series, Gill said, “His (Rohit’s) batting technique didn’t really change. It was all his mental focus and how he was willing to score runs for the Indian team as an opener.”

I think my career is going in right direction –

Further, Shubman Gill believes that his career is going in the right direction at the moment. He wants to improve his game on a regular basis to seal the regular spot in the Indian team.

“I think my career is going at the right pace. In all the tournaments, I have been trying to step up my game and trying to work hard and get those runs. I was really disappointed when I didn’t get the runs. I was obviously hoping that I would get the runs and that’d be a really good start for my career. But I’m looking for the next opportunity,” Gill said at a promotional event.

Well, it would be interesting to see whether the young Shubman Gill will get a chance for the series against Bangladesh or not. Currently, Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Mayank Agarwal are delivering goods on a regular basis.
