England all-rounder Liam Livingstone made a compelling case to be named in the squad for the T20 World Cup later this year. Liam Livingstone struck a whirlwind hundred against Pakistan in the first of the three T20Is in Nottingham on Friday. Veteran seamer Stuart Broad feels that Livingstone has made an irrefutable case for the global event.

Liam Livingstone came to the crease after Moeen Ali holed out to deep mid-wicket, leaving England three down for 50 in pursuit of a steep chase of 233. The right-handed batsman took Pakistan’s bowlers to the sword from the get-go and struck England’s fastest fifty off 18 balls. Livingstone reached triple figures in his 42nd delivery, making a record hundred for the Three Lions in the shortest format.

But he departed for 103 in the very next ball as England fell 31 runs short of the target. Stuart Broad said that Liam Livingstone, who struck nine sixes in his 43-ball knock, might have forced his way into the squad and believes fans will see plenty of him in the future. The 34-year old underlined that Livingstone can hit even good balls for sixes and that England’s senior players look for players like him, who can do special things.

“He might well have forced his way into the T20 World Cup squad with a performance like that. I think we’ll see a lot more of him in white-ball cricket for England in the future. He has such power, and can hit good balls for six. That’s what the likes of Eoin Morgan, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler want in the changing room – people who can play innings like this,” Broad stated as quoted by Sky Sports.

Stuart Broad observed it was a brutal knock as Livingstone struck the ball cleanly from the moment he arrived at the crease. The right-arm seamer, who plays only Tests, said the 27-year old cleared the ropes comfortably and played one of his best innings on the international arena.

“It was brutal. He struck it beautifully from the moment he came in – against seam, against spin. He hit nine sixes and they were all clearing the rope by a country mile. It was one of those knocks that you play once in a lifetime really, so to do it so early in his international career is amazing,” he added.
