The BCCI invited applications for the selectors’ post till Friday (January 24) as they look to appoint two new selectors in the five-man selection panel. The position of BCCI chairman of selectors is up for grabs with MSK Prasad finishing his four-year term last November. Since then, Prasad has been on an extension along with former India and Rajasthan batsman Gagan Khoda.

As of now, there is no clarity over who would conduct the interviews. According to the BCCI Constitution, the men’s selectors need to be appointed by a cricket advisory committee (CAC). However, the CAC has been defunct since last November and is yet to be formed.

As far as the criteria is concerned for the selectors, the candidate should have played 7 Test matches or 30 first-class matches or 10 ODIs and 20 first-class matches. A number of high profile names have applied for the post and here is a list of all of them.

Chetan Sharma:

Chetan Sharma, who made his Test debut at the age of 18, represented India in 23 Tests and 65 ODIs. He picked up 61 wickets in Tests and 67 wickets in the white-ball format. Chetan Sharma was also a handy batsman and has a Test fifty and ODI century to his name.

Laxman Sivaramakrishnan:

Laxman Sivaramakrishnan is the oldest among the list of people to have applied for the selectors’ role. While he was known for his leg-spin, he did not really have a long international career. Sivaramakrishnan played just 9 Tests and 16 ODIs. In Tests, he picked up 26 wickets while in ODIs, he has 15 scalps to his name.

Nayan Mongia:

Former India wicketkeeper Nayan Mongia has the most Test caps among the candidates. He played 44 Tests and an 140 ODIs, affecting a total of 261 dismissals across formats.

Abey Kuruvilla:

Abey Kuruvilla played a total of 10 Tests and 25 ODIs for India. He picked up 25 wickets in Tests as well as in ODIs.
