New Zealand fast bowler, Lockie Ferguson has penned a deal with Derbyshire for the upcoming edition of the T20 Blast commencing from July 4.

Meanwhile, the 27-year old is likely to be available for the entire duration of the competition. Ferguson, who had played only T20I for the Kiwis has 15 scalps at 39.86 in the T20 format. Moreover, he had also represented Rising Pune Supergiant in 2017.

Furguson had also played 16 ODIs so far, taking 18 wickets at an average of 35.61. Derbyshire Cricket Advisor, Kim Barnett expressed his happiness to have Lockie on board.

Lockie is very quick, regularly bowls over 90mph and has IPL experience. We’re delighted to have him on board for the Vitality Blast,” Barnett said. “Lockie will complement our attack alongside fellow overseas Wahab Riaz and we’re looking forward to see how they go,” he added.

Furguson, well-known for racking up high speeds has struggled due to injuries throughout his career. He sustained a stress fracture of the back at the age of just 18.

Even after he forced his way into Auckland Aces’ side in 2012-13, Lockie had to wade through injury problems. As a result, the pacer had played a mere eight List A games before he donned his maiden ODI cap in Australia in December 2016.

Furguson is looking forward to playing under former New Zealand opener, John Wright, coach of the side. He is also looking to pick wickets using his raw pace.

I’m absolutely delighted to play in the Vitality Blast for Derbyshire,” Ferguson said. “Hopefully, I can get a couple down at some pace that former Derbyshire fast bowlers would be proud of. I cannot wait to represent the county with pride,” he added.

Derbyshire now has a fine pace attack, with Wahab Riaz, Ravi Rampaul, Hardus Viljoen and Ferguson on their side.
