Bangladesh all-rounder, Mahmudullah Riyad has stated he is ready to take over the Bangladesh captaincy if he given the opportunity to lead the team. However, Mahmudullah made this revelation during a sports business conference ‘Sports Hub’ which was organised by Imago.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh Test and T20I skipper Shakib Al Hasan is injured and is expected to be out of cricketing action for at least the next three months. Also, there were questions on who will lead the team in the series against Zimbabwe which is slated to start later in the month. Then, Bangladesh will lock horns against the Windies in November.

However, Mahmudullah Riyad was handed over the Bangladesh captaincy during the Nidahas Trophy in March earlier in the year. He captained the side till Shakib came back for the tournament.

“I have always liked captaincy as it’s a challenging job at the same time it’s a huge honour. I have always looked forward to it, and if I get such an opportunity I am ready for it,” said Mahmudullah

However, it must be noted the all-rounder hasn’t maintained the best fitness due to a back injury which he sustained during the Windies tour this year. Meanwhile, he also took part in the Caribbean Premier League which preceded the Asia Cup 2018.

“Injuries will be there and you have to play with it. Maybe it got worse after playing continuous cricket as I am feeling the pain in my rib area as well now. At the moment I am feeling a bit better and taking rest. I hope that I will be able to recover in time,” he said.

Mahmudullah said the whole team was confident of winning the World Cup someday or the other. He believes the team has 100% faith in themselves and can win the World Cup.

“We have hundred per cent belief, and we believe that we can win [the World Cup]. And I strongly believe that. But at the same time, I have to say that we can’t give any guarantees. The World Cup and Asia Cup are such big tournaments that you can’t guarantee anything as you have to move forward step by step as you learn every day in cricket,” Mahmudullah concluded.
